Gain Perspective from Dr. Hedy Lemar Walls

As we celebrate the Fourth of July and what it means to live in the United States, the important work of the YMCA New American Welcome Centers comes to mind.

The New American Welcome Centers serve newcomers – immigrant and refugee populations. Through a holistic, whole-family case management approach, the Center works with families to resolve immediate needs and connect them to a wide array of community resources. The New American Welcome Center team has successfully served over 2,300 refugees over the past two years.

Let’s hear from Ali AlGhafilee, family support specialist at our New American Welcome Centers, as he shares how his own life experiences helps him in his role as we serve our neighbors in our community. He understands the importance of creating a sense of belonging and supporting all who come to our community and country for a better life. Each person’s journey is unique and that is what makes the diversity of our community so amazing.

The YMCA Equity Innovation Center is here for you to intentionally engage in thought-provoking experiences and resources that will expand your knowledge and skills. We invite individuals and groups to embark on a pathway of Leading with Excellence and Equity through learning experiences that can be applied in system change work for greater equity.  Join us on the journey through engaging sessions held virtually on Zoom, safe in person or in a mixture of virtual and in-person settings.

Connect with our team to discuss how we can support you.
