Performing Arts overview

  • Ages: 18 months (parent/child) to 11 years

Music

Children learn the fundamentals of rhythm, music and movement. Activities will help teach children these basic skills in creative ways—including making and playing instruments, singing and dancing. Students will also learn about beat and matching pitch as they make new friends and have fun. Music Basics classes are grouped by age:

  • Parent/Child: 18 months to three years
  • Preschool: Three to five years
  • School-Age: Six to 11 years

Dance

Children from age three to five years are introduced to the basics of dance in a casual, play-like environment. Students from age six to 14 years have the opportunity to learn large and fine motor skills along with flexibility and basic dance steps. Classes are designed to promote self-confidence, spatial awareness, coordination and rhythm. Choose from ability-focused and age-appropriate classes like:

  • Ballet and Lyrical
    Preschoolers learn the basics of ballet. School-age children focus on the basic positions, body posture and technique, before moving on to more advanced moves and progressions.
  • Hip Hop
    Little kids start with rhythm, music and movement. Older kids learn stationary positions, work on attitude and eventually refine personal style.
  • Tap and Jazz
    Younger students focus on basic steps and technique through games and the use of props. Older dancers learn basic positions and progress to more advanced steps, leaps and kicks.
