Camp Culture

At YMCA of the North, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience the great outdoors, connect with nature, and find themselves.

Who We Are

Mission

YMCA adventure centers are committed to helping participants achieve their fullest potential in personal development, social growth, and physical well-being, with an understanding of their natural environment.

Vision

To create a more vibrant, inclusive northland that is strengthened by diversity and respectful of differences.

Values

Y adventure centers nurture character development through the expression of the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Equity.

How We Do

Character Development

Our well-trained counselors lead quality programs that are safe, fun, and enriching. At YMCA adventure centers, your child will ...

  • Develop integrity, self-reliance, and leadership skills
  • Build friendships that could last a lifetime
  • Enrich spirit, mind, and body through challenging and fun activities
  • Gain an appreciation for the natural environment
Fundamental Respect

Respect is fundamental to all YMCA activities ...

  • Respect for Self – Respect begins by believing in yourself and your capabilities. At the Y, we stress taking care of yourself and taking responsibility for your actions.
  • Respect for Others – We emphasize goal setting, sharing, and working together as a group to accomplish more collectively than would be possible individually. We honor individual differences, believing that diversity presents many opportunities for learning and personal growth.
  • Respect for the Environment – Wilderness adventures should be conducted using "Leave No Trace" ethics and standards.
  • Respect for Equipment – We stress the importance of taking care of the tools and equipment we use at camp and in the wilderness.
