The family spring break trip of a lifetime!

A glorious week in Hawaii awaits with a service experience with non-profits and organizations on the North Shore of Oahu, and in Honolulu, adventure activities at YMCA Camp Erdman, family wellness programs, and relaxation in a gorgeous destination! 

Our second annual Family Impact Trip is an invitation to step into a week in Hawaiian paradise to focus on environmental service, quality time with family, building strong and supportive community connections with other families, and deepening appreciation and understanding of Hawaiian culture.

Program Details

Schedule

Sunday, April 2 – Arrive

Please travel to Honolulu to arrive by Sunday, April 2nd at 1pm. We will be meeting at the camp on Sunday afternoon by 5pm. We will provide transportation to Camp Erdman. Transportation will be provided at different times and locations on Sunday, April 2nd.

April 3–7 – Impact

Our group of families will access camp programs and explore the area. We will be volunteering at state parks, in camp service projects, and with other community partners four of the five days from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Afternoons and free days will include options for adventure activities, out-of-camp excursions offered, relaxing, age group activities for kids, wellness time, and more!

*Out-of-camp excursion costs are not included in price of retreat.

Saturday, April 8 – Depart

Programing ends after breakfast on Saturday. There will be 3 shuttles leaving to the Honolulu airport throughout the day, considering departure times.

Fee

Cost per Participant

  • $850 per person (ages 2 - 99*. Those under the age of 2 are welcome to join our trip at no cost. Please still include their information when registering.)
  • The small family shared cabin price per person: $650
    (limited availability – price is intended for families of 3 or less willing to share a cabin with another family of 3 or less.)
  • A deposit of $200 will be used to reserve a Cabin or Yurt (Cabins 1-4, Yurts 1 & 2) for up to 6 people.
  • A deposit of $200 will be used to reserve Small Family Shared Cabin 5a or 5b (shared) for up to 3 people per family.
    (all deposits will be applied to the trip's final cost.)
  • Families of 4 – 6 people will receive a 15% discount off the final cost at the time of billing.  If you have more than 6 people who would like to join, please reach out to Ashlee Mueller directly at ashlee.mueller@ymcamn.org with details and we will accommodate you as we are able.
  • If you need a financial scholarship, applications are available. Please begin this process to use this award toward your final cost.
What to Bring
  • Appropriate clothing and gear for performing fieldwork. This includes sturdy closed-toed shoes, long pants, lightweight long-sleeve shirts, work gloves, and sun protection.
  • Casual clothes for daily activities and excursions outside of our volunteer time.
  • Swimming and beach attire/gear (swimsuits, towel (we suggest the Turkish Towel brand, or a similar travel towel, to save on space), hat, reusable beverage cup, sandals, sunglasses)
  • Toiletries (eco-friendly)
  • Lightweight lounging clothes. Bring something that covers your skin a little more for bugs at dusk
  • Camera/phone and chargers
  • Bug-spray and reef-safe sunscreen
  • Flashlight/Headlamp with extra batteries
  • Books/magazines/reading materials
  • Water bottle
  • Spending money
  • Bedding- travel pillow (or a pillowcase to stuff with sweatshirts and/or other clothing you’re bringing, sheet set, lightweight blanket or sleeping bag (guide suggestion of a sleeping bag liner)
  • Car seats – if a car seat is needed, please bring your car seat to be used in the 15-passenger sprinter van.
  • Baby carriers / wearers
  • Portable strollers as needed
Planning Meetings

There are three virtual trip planning and community meetings leading up to the trip:

  • March 6 at 6:30 pm CT – Introductions, information about the Impact Trip, sample schedules, what to pack, and flight information.
  • March 20 at 6:30 pm CT – Confirmation of dates, times, and itinerary for planning.
  • March 27 at 6:30 pm CT (Optional) – Finalize all details, answer outstanding questions, and welcome any newcomers to the group.
About YMCA Camp Erdman

The YMCA of Honolulu is one of the largest non-profit organizations in the state. It was founded in 1869 and incorporated under the laws of the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1882. YMCA Camp Erdman is located within Kaena Point State Park, between the mountains and the sea. Every year, thousands of campers experience YMCA Camp Erdman’s various programs, including Outdoor Education, Retreat Programming, Family Camp, and Summer Camp.


Price Includes*

  • All meals at the YMCA Camp Erdman dining hall. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated.

  • Pack-out lunches will be provided on service days.

  • All camp activities, including age groups (activities for kids with Y staff!)

  • Transportation for service trips, excursion locations, arrival, and departure for retreat. Cost of excursion is not included.

  • Mindful movement, group journals, meditation, other wellness offerings. and personal reflection opportunities. 

  • Program t-shirt and journal (T-shirt size is guaranteed if signed up before March 10th, 2023. If signing up after, we will work with accommodating you.)

*Price does not include airfare, alcohol, out-of-camp excursion costs, and tipping.

Billing Schedule:

$200 is due at time of registration for lodging deposit. This amount will go toward the final cost.

If signed up before March 10th, 2023:

  • March 10, 2023: 50% of total amount due will be charged to the payment on file for registration.

  • March 24, 2023: remaining 50% of total amount due will be charged to payment on file for registration.

If signed up after March 10th, 2023:

  • Within 72 hours: 50% of total amount due will be charged to the payment on file for registration.

  • March 24, 2023: remaining 50% of total amount due will be charged to payment on file for registration.

Total payment will be collected by March 24th, 2023.


Please register one adult per site as the payer.  You will be prompted to indicate how many total adults and children will be coming to the Hawaii Family Impact Trip and asked to include their information. There is no cost for anyone that is 2years old and younger. Please take that into consideration when checking the amount of people in your family coming as you will be charged per person. You will still be prompted to add everyone’s information after registering, and there you will be able to include those that are 2 and under. Example: If you have a family of 5 joining us, and one is under the age of 2, you will choose the 4 people option. You will still be be able to list the information for those 2 and under.  All discounts are applied at checkout.

Accommodations

Cabins

4 private cabins, 1 shared small families cabin – amenities: Each family will have their own cabin (max of 6 people per family) each cabin has twin beds, a full bathroom with shower, as well as a shower and bathroom house located centrally near the cabin pod. 2 toilets and shower inside the cabin, storage cubbies, located directly next to Waianae Mountains.

Yurts

2 Yurts are available – amenities: 2 sets of bunks (twin on full), immediate beach access, microwave, mini fridge, lanai, grill, kitchen utensils, not attached: 1 shower, 1 toilet per yurt, located 20ft behind Yurt structure - Beach style
