Sailing Trips
First Mates
Grades 7–8
The First Mates program is designed to give an introduction to basic sailing skills and techniques on optimist-class boats. First Mates spend a portion of each day receiving sailing instruction and training, and the rest of their time participating in traditional camp activities.
Windjammers
Grades 8–9
Our Windjammers graduate to 420s and a variety of keelboats, experiencing expert training in partnership with St. Croix Sailing School, a regionally renowned youth sailing academy, as well as getting the opportunity to sail for four days on the waters of Lake Superior, surrounding the Apostle Islands, through our partnership with Howl and Dreamcatcher Sailing in Bayfield, WI.
50/50 Sailing Trip
Grades 7–12
INVITATION ONLY
The Fifty-Fifty sailing trip has been a long-standing tradition at Camp Warren. We are fortunate to be teamed up with Dreamcatcher Sailing, based in Bayfield, Wisconsin.
Warren campers and a counselor become the crew as they learn how to sail and handle the boat, anchoring or docking at night at one of the protected islands of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. By day, they sail, swim, hike and explore the sea caves by dinghy.
100/100 Sailing Trip
Grades 7–12
INVITATION ONLY
Successful 50/50 participants are invited to participate in this extended Lake Superior sailing trip. Five days longer than 50/50, sailors are able to explore more of Lake Superior and participate in more technical crossings. Routes may include a visit to Isle Royale or exploring Superior’s North Shore. Nine days of working as a crew, learning about one of North America’s greatest treasures – Lake Superior, and having fun.
