NEW THIS YEAR: Fall & Spring Series

Come to Camp St. Croix and spend the day on the farm! Through this new Agricultural Education program offering at The Farm at Camp St. Croix, students will experience first-hand the day-to-day operations of a working farm. This progressive series teaches students info that builds with each session—providing a cumulative education that changes with the season. Sign up for one or all of the sessions in this series!

Students will have the opportunity to explore the high tunnel, wander through the Discovery Garden, and work with egg-laying hens. Learning through the hands on study session, and experiencing real work on the farm, students will make meaningful connections between the food they eat and the land where it grows. Making these connections will help develop these young leaders into responsible stewards of the land.

What does a Farm on the Homeschool day look like?

Study Sessions—2 hours

Below are the Study Sessions offered during the 2022-23 school year. During the two-hour study session, students will go in depth on each topic, discovering and learning how these areas are of important to our farm and ecosystem.

Work the Ground—1 hour

There are always things to do on the Farm! Students will have the opportunity to experience seasonal activities, which might include preparing the soil for planting, starting seeds, transplanting seedlings, watering, weeding, harvesting, or any other task needed to prepare the farm to function at its best. We’ll check on the chickens and see what they need for the day and collect their eggs. This one hour option will change with the season, month, or even the day.

Enjoy the Harvest—1-2 hours

During this time students will enjoy the fruits of their labor, and witness first-hand how flavorful fruits and vegetables are when they are grown locally and picked at the peak of harvest. During this session, students will learn a new skill set specific to harvesting, preparing, and eating produce.
