May 8 Family Camp Update

Hello Family Camp Friends!

We are happy to confirm our YMCA Family Camps intend to re-open for Summer Family Camp!

Safety has become a top priority. We’ve added even more stringent cleaning and sanitizing standards to make sure you feel safe and comfortable. Our team will be fully prepared and trained in these additional standards for our entire camp facility. Due to these increased cleaning needs, we are planning on adjusting our schedule to allow for a full day in between each camp session. Our weekly sessions will run from Sunday to Saturday at both camp locations this summer. Additionally, our four-day sessions at Camp Northern Lights will change to three-day sessions. See our Family Camp Frequently Asked Questions for details on what we’ll be doing to keep camp clean and safe throughout your time with us.

It is also necessary that we make some programs changes this summer to ensure the safety of your family and those at camp with you.

Most significantly, we will not be offering our age group programming this summer. We are taking every precaution we can to ensure we provide the healthiest camp possible, and we believe that age group programming could compromise the physical distancing recommendations and guidance we have received from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the MN Department of Health. For similar precautionary reasons, we have also decided not to operate our Leadership Development Program this summer. These certainly were difficult decisions to make, knowing that age groups and our teen leaders are some of the most beloved parts of camp. However, your health and safety are our top priority and we feel these are the right decisions to make at this time. Please know that we are cooking up all sorts of program options that will allow your family and our entire camp community to enjoy time together in nature while also staying distanced enough to keep everyone safe! We will continue to have our wonderful program staff team to support your experience with things like art projects, yoga, hikes, paddles, boating, fishing and much more!

While our inside dining option will remain closed at Camp du Nord, our Food Service Manager is planning a number of delicious and innovative options for take-out meals that will be offered for both lunch and dinner. At Northern Lights, there will be increased days that food trucks will be onsite and we will also be offering take-out options at Anna Marie’s snack shack assuming these will be authorized to operate.

We are confident that even with adjusted programming, your experience at camp will be as memorable as ever and just what you need; time with your family in nature!

We are still waiting for additional guidance on a few areas of family camp. We promise to keep you up-to-date with information as future decisions are made. Per Governor Walz, campgrounds are not allowed to be open at this time. We are watching this closely and will hopefully have information soon regarding having our tent camping open this summer.

While you’ll see some changes, the things you love most about family camp are still here. Canoe the pristine waters. Hike the trails and gather blueberries along the way. Take in the breathtaking sunrises and sunsets over the lake. Relax and unwind with the people you love.

We understand that some of these program adjustments made for this summer will make the experience a bit different for all of us. In light of a slightly shorter session, we are happy to offer a 10 percent discount on your camp fees (does not apply to meal service). However, if you are willing and able, we would greatly appreciate your consideration of sticking with the full payment plan, as our expenses are not reduced with these changes. If you choose the discount, please make the request by filling out this form.

If you would prefer to cancel your registration at this time for whatever reason, you can do via this onine form and we’ll look forward to seeing you up north at a future date!

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns. We hope to see you up north!

With Gratitude,

Niki Geisler
