The YMCA partners with the LIVESTRONG® Foundation to help cancer survivors journey toward recovery with the research-based LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program.


The program offers a safe, supportive environment for adults who are going through cancer treatment or have gone through cancer treatment in the past and want to regain wellbeing. The program focuses on you—the whole person—not the disease.

It’s a free, 12-week program that meets twice a week for up to 90 minutes per session. Using methods to ease you back into fitness and help you maintain a healthy weight, LIVESTRONG focuses on:

  • Building muscle mass and strength
  • Increasing flexibility and endurance
  • Improving confidence and self esteem
  • Reducing stress
  • Encouraging a supportive community and formation of relationships
  • Continuing wellbeing following the program

Individualized attention

You have your own physical challenges and lifestyle goals. The LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program offers individualized attention and focuses on your goals. If you’re not a Y member, participating in the program includes a 90-day YMCA membership.

Studies show that moderate levels of appropriate physical activity can reduce fatigue, boost self-esteem and improve strength and endurance. There’s no competition—physical activities are tailored to match what you’re able to accomplish.

Expert and caring team members

The LIVESTRONG at the YMCA team is specially trained to work with cancer survivors, and follows the American College of Sports Medicine and American Cancer Society exercise guidelines.

Each instructor on your team has undergone specialized training in the elements of cancer, post-cancer exercise, nutrition and supportive cancer care.

Getting started

To register, the first step is contact us to discuss any questions you might have, plus participation in the program.

Once we’ve connected, you’ll need to get medical clearance from your healthcare provider and complete a few forms. Enrollment is handled on a case-by-case basis.
