YIG alumna Erica Skarohlid (’11) was working at her job as Marketing Director for History Theater when she overhead playwright Keith Hovis giving an interview about his new play “The Boy Wonder,” the story of Minnesota’s youngest Governor, Harold Stassen. Hovis said, “I believe our nation is not as divided as it may sometimes seem, and I hope audiences leave inspired by Stassen’s mission to break down party politics and unite the people. Who is the next Boy (or Girl) Wonder coming to save our country?”
Erica says her next thoughts were immediate: “I bet it will be someone from YIG!”
And that got her thinking: “Many of us who loved YIG are also secret history and politics geeks,” says Erica. “I love learning more about our state’s political history and Harold Stassen’s story is super interesting – he was elected Governor at age 31, ran for president 10 times, and helped to create the United Nations. I started wondering whether other people connected to YIG or MUN might enjoy seeing this play.”
So Erica worked with her History Theater colleagues to come up with a special offer: All Friends of CYV can purchase Tier One Seats for $50 (regularly $74) for all evening performances of The Boy Wonder at History Theater, which runs October 7-29, 2023. Use the code COMMUNITY when you check out to receive the discount. Current YIG and MUN delegates can purchase tickets to the show for only $10, using the code WONDERMN.
“Even if you don’t consider yourself a fan of theater, if you like history or politics, you will enjoy this show,” Erica promises. “It’s about examining a time in our history and reflecting on where we are today.” Click here to read more about the show.
