Accessible Acupuncture

Community Acupuncture, also called Group Acupuncture, is a popular style of acupuncture because of its accessibility. The main differences between Community and private acupuncture sessions are three-fold:

  • Community is a shorter and often more affordable experience.
  • Community acupuncture treatments are in a shared space and are fully clothed.
  • There is less personal attention from the acupuncturist, and you may have to wait.

Acupuncture can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions, including allergies, anxiety, arthritis, back pain, depression, headaches, high blood pressure, indigestion, inflammation, insomnia, menstrual irregularity, neck pain, PMS, shoulder pain, sore throat, stress, tendonitis, tension, TMJ pain, weight loss, and more.

What to Expect

During community acupuncture, multiple acupuncture clients receive services in the same room.

  • Each person is seated in a zero-gravity chair.
  • The licensed acupuncturist moves from person to person, completing a brief consultation and placing needles.
  • The entire session is 120 minutes; the acupuncture treatment lasts about 20-30 minutes.
  • Members and non-members are welcome. (Non-members must bring a photo ID each visit).

What's Different about Thursdays at Blaisdell Y: Dr. Ray Himmelman Le Blanc works with three Doctoral and Master's level Chinese Medicine student interns. The interns will administer treatment with Dr. Ray’s collaboration and supervision. Dr. Ray also leads a 20-minute QiGong practice before the acupuncture session. This is an opportunity to participate in the education of up-and-coming acupuncture providers while benefiting from the expertise Dr. Ray brings to the Community Acupuncture experience.
