Trail Guide

Total Available Positions: 60

Duration: May 29 – August 29

Description: Trail guides lead and support wilderness trip programming for teenagers. This is a seasonal, outdoor-intensive role that involves extended backcountry travel, group leadership, and participation in broader camp activities. Onsite shared staff housing is provided while not on trail.  Trips range from two to 40 nights across the U.S. and Canada. Guides also support base camp operations. Trail guides must be at least 18 (or 21 if driving) and possess or can obtain certifications such as ARC Lifeguarding and Wilderness First Responder by the first day of camp. The role requires emotional resilience, the ability to work outdoors in all conditions, and physical capability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs on rugged terrain. Equipment Room Lead

Description: The Equipment Room Lead is responsible for organizing, tracking, maintaining, and repairing all camping and wilderness gear to ensure campers and staff are well-equipped for trail and in-camp programs. This includes issuing and tracking personal and group equipment such as dry bags, backpacks, tents, stoves, ropes, cookware, and warm layers. The Equipment Room Lead oversees the full lifecycle of camp gear—from preseason setup and organization of the equipment room to postseason inventory, cleaning, and storage. Trail Department Lead

Description: The Trail Department Lead manages all aspects of trail food pack-outs, ensuring that each group heading onto trail is equipped with safe, nutritious, and well-organized food supplies. Responsibilities include assisting groups in planning and packing food, maintaining accurate inventory, ordering ingredients, and preparing large batches of trail mixes such as pemmican and granola. This position ensures the trail department remains clean, organized, and compliant with all food safety protocols while supporting guides in accommodating camper dietary restrictions. The Trail Department Lead also coordinates preseason setup and postseason cleanup of the department, maintaining smooth operations throughout the camp season. Maintenance Technician

Description: The Camp Maintenance Technician supports the Properties and Facilities Manager in maintaining camp facilities and grounds, completing daily checklists, preventive maintenance. Duties can include but are not limited to trail and grounds maintenance, equipment cleaning, minor electrical and plumbing repairs, and operating and maintaining outboard motor boats, and basic carpentry skills. This role ensures the camp remains safe, clean, and well-maintained while contributing to an efficient and welcoming environment. Program Support Lead

Description: The Wilderness Camp Program Support Lead provides essential administrative and operational support to ensure the smooth and successful functioning of camp programs. This role assists Camp Directors with a wide variety of office-based responsibilities, including camper family communication, reviewing medical records, scheduling daily activities, maintaining accurate administrative documents, and supporting special events as needed. The position also helps uphold camp policies and emergency procedures, contributes to parent communication, and participates in rotating on-call duties and emergency response. Regular interaction with campers, parents, and staff—while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and strong communication—is a key component of the role.

In addition to administrative duties, the Program Support Lead assists with camper supervision, transportation, and occasional in- and out-of-state driving for groups. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, proficiency with Microsoft Office and database systems, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Physical readiness is important, as the role may involve participating in camp activities, carrying loads up to 50 pounds, and working in outdoor environments that include uneven terrain, heights, and varied weather conditions. In Camp Float

Description: The In-Camp Float assists across multiple departments as needed—including the York canoe factory, trail department, equipment room, the camp office, and around camp as needed—to ensure camp functions run smoothly and that both staff and campers receive timely support. Responsibilities include maintaining and preparing gear and canoes, assisting with equipment distribution and repair, supporting trail logistics and trail food preparation, completing general office tasks, and providing hands-on help wherever needed around camp. The In-Camp Float works closely with program department leads to respond to daily needs and priorities, adapting to different tasks throughout the season. Description: The Menogyn Camp Kitchen Staff play a key role in creating a positive dining experience at Camp Menogyn by preparing, serving, and cleaning up after nutritious meals. BOLD GOLD Wilderness Intern

Menogyn hosts 6 interns each summer. The Internship runs from July 19 to August 14.

YMCA of the North’s BOLD & GOLD program offers a paid internship program at Camp Menogyn, for young people ages 16-18-year-old. The Internship Program allows young leaders to develop their wilderness, leadership, interpersonal, and intercultural skills, by participating in a paid training program, followed by co-leading trips alongside camp staff. 

Menogyn's intern training includes a backcountry training trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) and runs from July 19–24. Following training, interns will co-lead two or three canoe trips, which may include a combination of 5-day BWCA Intro Canoe Trips or 12-day BWCA Canoe Trips.

Kitchen Manager

Description: This role is responsible for planning, preparing, and storing all food served at camp, including creating balanced meal plans, ordering ingredients, preparing meals, and maintaining proper inventory of all food and supplies. The Kitchen Manager also supports and coordinates a team of three kitchen staff, ensuring smooth daily operations and adherence to all health and safety standards. Additional responsibilities include maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, managing food storage and rotation, and communicating with camp leadership about dietary needs and special events. Canoe Manager

Description: The York Factory Lead is responsible for the care, repair, and upkeep of Menogyn’s extensive canoe fleet, which includes wood-canvas, Kevlar, aluminum, and plastic canoes. Additionally, they offer instruction and education to campers on basic canoe use and assist in picking out boats for trail. They also plan and facilitate programming for paddle-building programs. Additional duties include inspecting canoes for wear or damage, performing structural and aesthetic repairs, maintaining inventory of repair supplies, and coordinating preseason setup and postseason storage. Winter Season

Menogyn is open through the winter! Join us as winter program staff to support youth in outdoor recreation, including skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and wilderness travel. Staff assist with trip leadership, dog sledding support, and preparing camp for incoming groups. The season runs from late December to mid-March, and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Description: Winter Program Staff support youth and groups in winter outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing. Responsibilities include leading trips, assisting with cooking, cleaning, and dog sledding, and preparing camp for incoming groups. The role requires comfort in remote winter conditions, the ability to work with groups, and meeting minimum physical demands. Staff must be at least 18 and able to obtain required certifications, including Lifeguarding, CPR/BLS, and Wilderness First Responder, before supervising youth. Food and lodging are provided.
