During a river canoe trip, campers experience the challenge of navigating river waters and living in the outdoors. The 10-day trip covers 100-175 miles in Northern Wisconsin. For decades, this trip was organized into male-identifying (Pioneers) and female-identifying (Challengers) programs. In summer 2022, Camp Icaghowan implemented and immediately filled the Chioneers program — a diverse and inclusive river-trip experience for all genders. As the newest addition to the Pioneers and Challengers family, the Chioneers program proved to be quite popular and impactful. We’re looking forward to expanding this opportunity in 2023.
