Program Schedule, 2021-2022

March 18, 2022: The History of Maple Syrup

Maple syrup is a food product that most students have enjoyed, and during this homeschool session students will learn exactly where this syrup comes from. We will provide you the chance to take part in the process of making syrup from the sap that’s collected from our maple trees. Learn how this process has evolved over time.

*Students are recommended to bring sleds for this homeschool session if there is snow on the ground.

April 15, 2022: Spring Restoration

Explore the different ways the ecosystems and camp prepares for the upcoming spring. Compare and contrast the differences in the various habitats emerge from the blanket of winter and what man-made and natural tools we use to promote the overall health of Camp St. Croix’s prairie.

April 29, 2022: Farm to Table

Come experience a day on the farm and learn first-hand how food gets to our plates. Students will participate in three different activities at Camp St. Croix’s Grow and Gather Farm: a study session exploring crop physiology and the soil ecosystem, time working the ground to understand first-hand the needs of plants and animals, and finally, students will experience cooking the harvest. Through these three activities, students will gain experience and make important connections linking their food to its source, the ground!

*For this farm homeschool families will drop their campers off on Camp St. Croix’s North Property (DayCroix) at the RCU.

May 20, 2022: Wet and Wildlife

Walk the banks of the St. Croix River while discussing water’s role in our ecosystem, study aquatic life, and discover the effects humans have on our water quality and supply.
