If Your Child is Sick

YMCA Early Childhood Learning Centers are not licensed for “sick” child care. Therefore, if your child shows symptoms consistent with COVID-19, or any other illness that requires exclusion from care, they must be picked up within one hour. We will isolate your child (on a mat/cot or in a crib), under the supervision of a team member, until a parent/guardian is able to pick up.

The exclusion period for upper respiratory illness and/or COVID-19 symptoms is (at least) 10 days from symptom onset. For example: if your child is sent home with a fever and cough, they must be home for at least 10 days– If symptoms subside on day 4, they still have to be home for 10 days.  If symptoms subside on day 10, they are home for an additional 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication.

Symptoms consistent with COVID-19 include: new onset or worsening cough OR shortness of breath OR at least two of the following symptoms: fever (100.4 F or higher); chills; muscle pain; headache; sore throat; new loss of taste or smell. NOTE: The child may return to care with a negative COVID test result and/or an alternative diagnosis by their care provider. Siblings and household members of the symptomatic child may also return to care.

If a child or family member in the household has tested positive for COVID 19, quarantine will be 14 days from the last date if contact with the infected person regardless if they receive a negative test result.
