For Campers Entering Grades 7–12
Widji's backpacking program offers trips of increasing challenge and length designed to match the maturity, leadership and wilderness skill development of our campers. Camper interested in learning to backpack have a number of beautiful destinations to choose from, including Isle Royale and the Porcupine Mountains of Lake Superior, the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming and the Absaroka and the Spanish Peak ranges in Montana. Campers participating in these trips will learn hiking, navigation and camping skills. These campers will also build friendships, develop their interpersonal and leadership skills and practice resiliency as they experience the natural beauty of these destinations. Introductory and intermediate backpacking sessions range in length from 12 to 19 days with 8 to 15 days spent traveling in the wilderness.
Our Advanced Backpacking Trips offer capstone experiences for campers interested in honing their technical backpacking skills, interpersonal leadership and backcountry judgment. Advanced Campers receive invitations to register for sessions that range in length from 26-48 days and include 20-40 days on trail. Check out the Advanced Backpacking Trips page for more information on these offerings including an outline of the invitational process, session dates, rates and descriptions of the remote wilderness areas that serve as destinations for these trips.
