National Civics Bee (in Minnesota)
The YMCA Center for Youth Voice, in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, is hosting a nonpartisan civics competition designed to inspire young Americans to engage in civic life and strengthen their communities.
Sixth, seventh, and eighth graders will showcase their civics knowledge at regional competitions for a chance to earn recognition and cash prizes, with top students advancing to the State Bee in St. Paul and the National Civics Bee in Washington, DC.
In our inaugural year, 270 Minnesota middle school students applied to participate. Regional competitions include multiple-choice quiz rounds and a live Q&A with judges about students’ essays. The top three students from each regional event will move on to the State Civics Bee.
We are proud to host Minnesota’s first State Civics Bee at the Minnesota History Center on Sunday, June 14, from 1:00–3:00 PM. Join us to cheer on the state’s top young civic leaders and see who will advance to the national finals.
Please RSVP here to attend. All ages are welcome!
