We invite individuals and groups to embark on a pathway of Leading with Excellence and Equity through learning experiences that can be applied in system change work for greater equity. Join us on the journey through engaging sessions held virtually on Zoom, safe in person or in a mixture of virtual and in-person settings.
Equity on the Move in the Y
Summertime means enjoying the outdoors. At our YMCA we work with you and other people and organizations to strengthen our communities by ensuring all belong. An area where we have focused is nature experiences at our camps.
One program we have is S.T.E.P.S. which stands for Supporting the Transformation of Equity and Power in Outdoor Spaces. The goal of the taking S.T.E.P.S initiative is to thoughtfully and intentionally create more opportunities for BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+ families to experience the north woods in a family camp setting.
In doing so, we hope to change the experience of who is present and continue to grow a culture of universal belonging at camp. More than 80 families are projected to be served from 2021-2022.
Camp participant Ana wrote a beautiful poem titled Belonging about her first experience with her blended family at YMCA Camp Northern Lights.
