Realizing the best mobility in over a decade

After a 2014 knee replacement surgery, 68-year-old Dennis Schmidt was determined to make strides toward recovery. Although he was frustrated by the medical issues and physical limitations that were making recovery difficult, Dennis thought he might find help at the River Valley YMCA in Prior Lake.

In working with Personal Trainer Chris Kost, Dennis realized he was right. Together, they developed a recovery program that began with limited exercises in the pool, and progressed to include exercises out of the pool, too.

Dennis said, “What was so important to me is that he showed genuine interest in me and my health problems.”

After just four weeks of training, Dennis was experiencing better physical mobility than he had in the last 12 years. Instead of using a cane most of the time and walker for long distances, he’s no longer using the walker and is managing short distances without the use of a cane.

At his four-month check-up appointment, Dennis’ doctor said that his progress was better than most patients have achieved six months after surgery.

He’s proud of his commitment to exercise and training after surgery and is seeing his hard work pay off. Dennis says that his pain levels have improved, and he’s currently continuing to follow the workout program Chris designed for him at the YMCA in Bonita Springs, Florida.
