Hearty Beef & Bean Chili

A rich, comforting chili made with tender ground beef, hearty beans, and warm spices for a classic, satisfying meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  2. Add the ground beef. Break it up and cook until browned, about 6–7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Add chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add black beans, kidney beans, crushed tomatoes, broth, tomato paste, and sugar. Stir well.
  5. Bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low, cover, and let it bubble gently for at least 40–45 minutes.
  6. Taste and adjust salt or spices as needed.

Serving Ideas

Top with cornbread, shredded cheddar, sour cream, and/or green onions.
