A rich, comforting chili made with tender ground beef, hearty beans, and warm spices for a classic, satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook 30 seconds.
- Add the ground beef. Break it up and cook until browned, about 6–7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir and cook for 1 minute.
- Add black beans, kidney beans, crushed tomatoes, broth, tomato paste, and sugar. Stir well.
- Bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low, cover, and let it bubble gently for at least 40–45 minutes.
- Taste and adjust salt or spices as needed.

Top with cornbread, shredded cheddar, sour cream, and/or green onions.
