Minneapolis – The YMCA of the North, a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, is encouraging seniors participating in 2026 Medicare Advantage open enrollment to review their chosen plan to ensure it maintains their YMCA benefit.

Recent changes in coverage for the 2026 plan year may affect seniors’ YMCA benefit. Members who wish to retain access through their health plan to the fitness, wellbeing and community experiences offered at their local YMCA should take action before the Medicare open enrollment period ends on Dec. 7.

“We are here for seniors – for physical fitness, for mental wellbeing and for the sense of belonging that we all need,” said Glen Gunderson, president and CEO of the YMCA of the North. “We understand that this process might feel overwhelming and frustrating, particularly for seniors who have built strong connections with their local YMCA. We did not request or have the opportunity to influence these changes, but we’re here to support our members so they can review their plan elections and continue to access the services that are so important to their health.”

Members should directly confirm with their chosen insurance provider that their specific 2026 plan includes YMCA coverage. Open enrollment is available through Dec. 7 and participants may make enrollment changes to choose a plan that meet their needs – including re-enrolling in a new chosen plan – until the deadline.

“Our members’ connection to the YMCA community matters deeply to us,” said Gunderson. “That’s why we’re encouraging members to take action before open enrollment ends on Dec. 7 to ensure they select a plan that meets their needs and helps them maintain their fitness and wellbeing in the new year.”
