Swim Lessons for All Experience Levels at Eagan YMCA
At the Eagan YMCA, we offer a variety of private and public swim lessons for both kids and adults. The zero-depth entry pool, indoor lap pool, and whirlpool are open year-round at our aquatics center. Our swim lesson programs include:
- Group Swim Lessons: Swimmers will start with the basics of water safety and confidence before progressing to advanced stroke technique.
- Swim Safety Lessons: These lessons help young children learn rudimentary self-rescue skills to prevent drowning.
- Aquatics Specialty Classes: Our certified instructors offer specialty aquatics lessons, including competitive swim training.
- Private & Buddy Swim Lessons: Swimmers who want individualized instruction to improve their skills can sign up for private lessons.
Water Fitness & Aerobics in Eagan
Members at the Eagan YMCA can attend Water Boot Camp, Aqua Zumba, H2O Flow, and a variety of other water fitness and aerobics programs. After your exercise, feel free to recover in the refreshing warmth of our sauna and whirlpool. For accessibility, our aquatics facility features a zero-depth entry leisure pool, plus wheelchair-accessible restrooms and entrances.

Eagan YMCA Aquatic Center Highlights
- Leisure Pool: Our 15-yard long warm water leisure pool features zero-depth entry.
- Lap Pool: Swimming laps in our five-lane indoor lap pool is a great way to exercise and practice your strokes.
- Recovery: Once you're finished swimming or exercising, hop into our whirlpool or sauna.
- Accessibility: This is an ADA-compliant aquatic center with a zero-depth entry pool and accessible facilities.
Swim Starters
In this program, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim-readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences. Parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention and the importance of supervision.
Swim Basics
In this program, preschoolers, school-age kids, teens and adults learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills—swim, float, swim and jump, push, turn, grab.
Swim Strokes
Having mastered the fundamentals, preschoolers, school-age kids, teens and adults learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique.
Choosing a level
The student isn’t three years old yet.

The student is three to five years old.

The student is at least five years old, and isn’t yet able to swim 10-15 yards on their front and back.

The student is at least five years old, and is able to swim 10-15 yards on their front and back.

Customized Private and Buddy Swim Lessons
Customized 30-minute swimming lessons can be scheduled one-on-one, with a buddy or sibling and are a great option for swimmers looking to catch up or get ahead. Available in one-, three- or seven-lesson packages and can begin at any time. Contact an Aquatics Manager to schedule.

This competitive program offers children and teens ages five to 18 years an opportunity to work with trained coaches to improve swimming skills, endurance and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Group Exercise classes in the pool
Beyond swimming, the Y offers several water exercise classes that are free for YMCA members.
Open and lap swim
Lap swim is a scheduled time when you can use the pool to swim or walk the pool in a continuous pattern—sometimes in designated lanes that might be shared with others. During lap swim, regular safety breaks are scheduled.
Open swim is a designated time when the pool, or a section of the pool can be used for recreational swimming or family time.
